Statement by the Women’s Committee of the February 14 Coalition: The Life Sentence Issued Against the Free Woman “Badoor Abdulhameed” Is Unjust, Illegitimate, and Must Be Revoked
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
As part of the continuing brutal repression against the people of our nation, and in revenge for their humanitarian position in support of truth, the Al Khalifa regime, after suffering repeated failures, found no option except retaliation. It therefore committed a new judicial crime to add to its dark record by issuing an unjust sentence of life imprisonment against the free citizen “Badoor Abdulhameed Ali,” following a sham trial that did not respect even the most basic standards of human justice. Rather, the sentence came as punishment for her peaceful expression of opinion through the social media platform “X.”
The Women’s Committee of the February 14 Coalition followed with deep pain the sight of citizen “Badoor” standing behind bars while being tried on serious fabricated and malicious charges that have no connection to reality and were not supported by any legal evidence. These trials resembled a disgraceful farce in which a free woman was deprived of her natural right to defend herself and was placed before a judicial system whose outcomes appeared predetermined according to the wishes of the submissive regime.
The only “crime” committed by this courageous activist was that she freely expressed her opinion through her personal account — a freedom guaranteed by international conventions and norms, and upon which nations and civilizations are founded. If expressing an opinion in Bahrain is punished with life imprisonment, then this is a clear and explicit condemnation of everyone who believes in freedom of speech and a complete crime against the proud Bahraini people.
What female prisoners of conscience are subjected to inside the prisons of the Al Khalifa regime goes beyond all humanitarian and legal limits. They are subjected to physical and psychological torture through brutal methods that amount to crimes against humanity, including placing them together with criminal prisoners, exposing them to severe humiliation, and isolating them in solitary confinement in order to increase their psychological suffering and break their strong determination.
These brutal practices are a continuation of the regime’s policy of collective revenge against everyone who opposes it, especially members of the Shiite community, without any regard for international agreements or humanitarian laws that criminalize torture in all its forms.
We, in the Women’s Committee of the February 14 Youth Revolution Coalition, declare our full solidarity with the imprisoned free woman “Badoor Abdulhameed Ali” and with all female and male political detainees in the regime’s prisons. We salute their unbreakable spirit and legendary steadfastness, which stand as a beacon for all free people around the world.
We demand the immediate and unconditional cancellation of the unjust life sentence issued against citizen “Badoor Abdulhameed,” and her immediate release along with all prisoners of conscience and political detainees in the prisons of the Al Khalifa regime, whose only “crime” is that they belong to the Shiite community, which they describe as the origin, present, and future of Bahrain.
