Women’s Committee of the February 14 Coalition: The arrest of women on political grounds and their torture is an inhumane crime
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
The Al-Khalifa regime’s retaliation against the people has not been limited to their stance of solidarity with the Islamic Republic and their rejection of the presence of American military bases in Bahrain. It has not stopped at arresting young men and subjecting them to torture; rather, it has gone so far, in blatant recklessness, as to arrest four women.
The arrest of free women is not new in Bahrain. The Al-Khalifa regime’s brutality is not restrained by any human norms or international laws. It is driven by its tribal savagery and its inhumane approach in dealing with anyone who opposes it—even women.
We, in the Women’s Committee of the February 14 Youth Coalition, strongly condemn the arrest of these free women. We denounce the ill-treatment they are subjected to in prison, including physical and psychological torture, as well as placing them with criminal inmates and separating them from one another. We call on human rights organizations—especially those concerned with women’s rights—to pressure the Al-Khalifa regime to release them without any delay.
We also affirm our solidarity with the four detainees—Bodour Abdulhamid Ali, Sara Abdulnabi Marhoon, Zahra Hussein Al-Asfour, and Zahra Al-Hamad—and with their respected families. We stand in support of them until they attain their freedom.
