Chairman of the Shura Council of the February 14 Youth Coalition: Arbitrary Measures Are Not a Solution to the Country’s Crisis — The Real Solution Lies in Returning to the People
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Our country, Bahrain, has for a long time been suffering from crises, campaigns of persecution, repression, intimidation, arrests based on false accusations, and the revocation of citizenships targeting the Shiite presence and the nation’s authentic identity. These are arbitrary measures adopted by an authority that is severing all bridges with the people. Such a situation urgently requires a comprehensive remedy that takes into consideration the interests of both the homeland and its citizens alike. These actions are not solutions, as the authorities claim; rather, they lead to insecurity and instability. The realistic and logical solution lies in returning to the people and introducing fundamental remedies and solutions that fulfill their aspirations for freedom and justice.
We have previously pointed out that the presence of American military bases in the region, and in Bahrain in particular, is rejected by the peoples of the region. Their presence negatively affects the country’s sovereignty and the will of its people. It also poses a threat to national security and turns the country into an arena serving the agendas of hegemonic powers.
Today, we clearly see that these military bases have brought no benefit whatsoever. Instead, they have caused the country to become entangled in the circle of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, making Bahrain a direct target in any retaliatory response to that aggression. Therefore, rather than targeting this authentic component of society, its esteemed religious scholars, and its institutions under the pretext of “sympathizing with Iran,” the Al Khalifa regime should address the root cause of the problem into which it has placed itself.
The regime has no choice but to distance itself from the aggression against the Islamic Republic, disengage from normalization agreements, remove foreign military bases from the country, and correct the wrongdoing it has committed against the indigenous citizens of Bahrain.
Furthermore, the regime must realize that strength is not measured by its ability to oppress and brutalize people. It must also understand that governments endure only through the endurance of their peoples and by responding to their legitimate rights. Methods of repression, killing, and forced displacement merely reflect deep instability and severe weakness, and they are the path through which regimes move toward decline and eventual collapse.
When citizens feel justice and dignity, and when they are empowered to participate in determining their political destiny, they become the foundation upon which a just system is built — a system to which all the people aspire. Such systems naturally inspire loyalty and unity among the population because a just system is one that protects the homeland and safeguards its citizens. Under such circumstances, no force can strip away the people’s love for their country or their willingness to defend it with complete devotion and sacrifice.
A realistic and fundamental solution opens the doors of hope during times of hardship and crisis. It is the path that strengthens harmony, solidarity, and unity among the people of one nation. In contrast, repression, revocation of citizenships, corruption, tyranny, and forced displacement will make the regime rejected by all segments of society. People will come to see it as a direct threat to their existence, their security, the future of their homeland, and the future of their children.
