Statement: The Al Khalifa Entity’s Revocation of “Citizenship” from Indigenous Citizens Does Not Nullify Their National Belonging
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The February 14 Youth Revolution Coalition condemns the criminal policies pursued by the Al Khalifa regime in Bahrain, which were manifested today in an arrogant and unjust decision to revoke the citizenship of 69 citizens from the Bahraini people. This constitutes a deliberate and systematic targeting of an authentic component of the population—particularly members of the Shiite community—within a clearly discriminatory approach that amounts to persecution on the basis of religious identity.
These practices represent a grave violation of international law, including a clear breach of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. They rise to the level of arbitrary abuse of power and collective punishment prohibited under international law, as they did not spare women or even children. They may also be classified as forms of systematic persecution prohibited under customary international law.
We remind “the dictator Hamad” of his origins: he does not belong to the land of Bahrain and is an outsider to it. His ancestors invaded and occupied it by force. He should understand that the land belongs to those who truly know it—and it is certain that he does not know its palm trees, its sea, or its soil. Therefore, he is not worthy of holding a document of belonging to this land, which takes pride in its authentic figures and Islamic heritage—the Bahrain of knowledge and scholars, the Bahrain of the author of Al-Hada’iq al-Nadira and Sheikh Maytham Al-Bahrani.
We affirm that what the regime has done is nothing but illegitimate authoritarian behavior, reflecting political and moral bankruptcy and a clear inability to cope with regional changes that now threaten its existence—especially after tying its fate to a temporary entity and directly involving itself in the unjust war against the Islamic Republic, for which it will have to pay a heavy price.
We express our full and unwavering solidarity with all citizens whose citizenship has been unjustly revoked. We stress that these arbitrary decisions do not undermine their inherent rights, do not strip them of their status as citizens, and do not erase their national belonging. They are not alone in facing this grave injustice; all free people stand with them against policies of discrimination and persecution.
The proud people of Bahrain, with all their components—who launched one of the purest uprisings in 2011—will continue their legitimate struggle until they obtain their rightful political and economic rights, foremost among them their fundamental right to self-determination and to build a homeland that embraces all its people, and to end the era of corrupt and dictatorial Al Khalifa rule aligned with the enemies of the nation and religion.
