Weekly Statement: Bahrain’s Commemoration of Ashura Defeated the Tyrant’s Campaign of Intimidation… Our People Prepare to Renew Their Allegiance to the Path of the “Martyr Imam” Ali Khamenei
Issued by the Political Council of the February 14 Youth Coalition.
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We salute our faithful and honorable people of Bahrain for their steadfast commitment to commemorating Ashura, the anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), in recognition of the values embodied by the Battle of Karbala, which they view as drawing a clear distinction between the camp of truth, represented by Imam Hussein, and the camp of falsehood, represented by Yazid.
The people of Bahrain have demonstrated remarkable loyalty to the rituals of Ashura with resilience and determination, despite what the statement describes as an unprecedented campaign of repression over recent months. This, it says, reflects their deep roots in the country and asserts that no siege, intimidation, or pressure from what it calls “foreign occupiers” can strip them of their beliefs, identity, or attachment to their homeland.
We affirm that the steadfastness and determination shown by the people of Bahrain during Ashura have dealt a humiliating setback to King Hamad and his supporters. According to the statement, this will further weaken what it describes as his “pro-Zionist rule,” which it claims is approaching its downfall.
In this context, we present the following key points:
1. The statement argues that King Hamad’s speech at the conclusion of Ashura demonstrated his defeat in the face of the people’s determination. It claims that his repeated rhetoric and accusations reveal the failure of efforts to undermine the significance of Ashura or distort its enduring values. It further places this within what it describes as a series of setbacks facing the Al Khalifa ruling family, attributing them to its alignment with the United States and Israel, while praising the Islamic Republic of Iran for confronting what it calls American-Israeli aggression and opposing what it describes as an “empire of evil” led by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.
2. The statement says that the Bahraini people’s adherence to the principles of Ashura and its message of resisting injustice forms an inseparable part of their commitment to what it describes as the “front of resistance and dignity” led by the Islamic Republic of Iran. It argues that the defense of Bahrain’s religious identity and rituals will have significant political consequences, claiming that the resilience shown in Bahrain complements Iran’s confrontation with the United States and Israel and contributes to what it describes as a broader strategic liberation effort extending from Lebanon to Yemen and the Gulf.
3. Referring to recent remarks by senior Iranian officials concerning the Al Khalifa government and discussions surrounding Bahrain’s independence in 1970, the statement says its political position is based on what it describes as religious and national principles. It alleges that the Al Khalifa family seized control of Bahrain by force and sought to displace the country’s original inhabitants while transforming Bahrain into a settlement for themselves and foreign supporters. It further claims that the Bahraini people never accepted any arrangement that would legitimize what it calls the occupation, instead favoring a constitutional state reflecting the people’s identity and will. According to the statement, this objective was betrayed with the support of colonial powers. It also maintains that Bahrainis have resisted successive forms of foreign rule over the past two and a half centuries and remain committed to opposing the current government and seeking its removal.
4. The statement condemns the Bahraini Foreign Ministry’s congratulatory message to the Lebanese government regarding what it refers to as the “Washington Agreement” with Israel. It describes the agreement as shameful and harmful to Lebanon’s resistance movement while serving Israeli interests. It further accuses the Bahraini government of being an active participant in Israel’s regional agenda through normalization and by supporting policies that create division and conflict among neighboring countries. The statement concludes by asserting that governments aligned with these policies will ultimately face accountability from what it calls the resistance front.
5. With the approach of what the statement describes as the grand funeral ceremonies for the “Martyr Imam” Sayyid Ali Khamenei, it calls upon the people of Bahrain to prepare for broad participation under the slogan “Rise for God.” It says the event will serve as an opportunity to renew their pledge of loyalty to his path, which it describes as inspired by Imam Hussein’s resistance against oppression and foreign domination. The statement adds that, just as Bahrainis demonstrated loyalty to the late Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, they will likewise reaffirm their loyalty to Ali Khamenei, alongside commemorations in Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and what it describes as every free place around the world.
