Statement by Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Ahmad Qassim on the Tenth of Muharram 1448 AH
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Hussein Leads the Battle of the Present
Our present age has been, and continues to be, the scene of a fierce and decisive battle launched by the United States, Zionism, and what the speaker describes as arrogant, hostile, and brutal Jews. According to the speaker, they have used nearly every type of highly destructive weapon in an effort to eliminate the blessed Islamic Republic of Iran and the Resistance Front. He argues that the broader objective is to subjugate, humiliate, and dominate the entire Muslim nation. He further states that these efforts have received significant support from Europe and, regrettably, even greater support from several Arab governments.
The speaker describes this war against the Resistance Front and the Muslim nation as the fiercest, widest-ranging, most dangerous, and most destructive campaign of aggression to date.
He further argues that the participation of several Arab states alongside the enemy has caused severe suffering among many of their own citizens. According to the statement, this has included imprisonment, forced displacement, exile, revocation of citizenship, accusations of treason, the separation of families—including those with infants—and security campaigns involving investigations and judicial proceedings that the speaker claims fall outside proper legal standards. He attributes these measures to the fact that these individuals openly oppose governments that cooperate with what he describes as the enemies of Islam and the Muslim and Arab nations.
In contrast, the speaker praises the Islamic resistance movements and states that they have responded with exceptional courage, enormous sacrifice, firm principles, wisdom, experience, resilience, determination, strategic insight, unity, and effective coordination. He says they have remained calm in the face of unexpected developments and have demonstrated remarkable endurance. He attributes these achievements to outstanding leadership, placing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the forefront, followed by his son Mojtaba Khamenei, whom he describes as successfully continuing the leadership of the resistance.
According to the speaker, all components of the Resistance Front are united by one path: the path of Imam Hussein’s struggle and the everlasting revolution of Karbala. He describes this path as divinely guided, unwavering in truth, free from ignorance, injustice, immoral objectives, and unethical methods.
He states that the resistance draws its qualities from Imam Hussein’s religion, knowledge, piety, wisdom, education, leadership, school of thought, noble purpose, steadfastness, purity, determination, devotion to God, and reverence for Him. He further describes this leadership as one chosen by God to build and reform society, together with carefully selected supporters.
The speaker argues that today the thought of Karbala and Imam Hussein’s revolution is confronting what he describes as a tyrannical and oppressive aggression against humanity, religion, and the moral values upon which a just civilization depends. He believes this struggle seeks to guide humanity toward its highest purpose and provide security and dignity in this world.
He continues by saying that Imam Hussein’s revolution is being carried forward today through the contemporary Islamic resistance, which he believes is achieving growing successes in politics, military affairs, media, and other constructive fields of strength.
According to the statement, this resistance is the product of authentic religious scholarship, trusted seminaries, inspiring Hussaini mourning gatherings, and the large public processions that commemorate Imam Hussein.
The speaker further argues that the Resistance Front is overcoming misconceptions about Islam and helping people recognize what he describes as Islam’s greatness, wisdom, mercy, ethics, strength, educational values, and successful guidance for both this life and the Hereafter.
He accuses international media of spreading false and unjust misinformation about Islam, claiming that this deprives humanity of its benefits. In contrast, he argues that the Islamic resistance is actively exposing this misinformation and helping people better understand Islam.
The speaker states that a major transformation is taking place in what he calls the Karbala-inspired movement of jihad, not only on the battlefield but in every area where striving in God’s cause is required. He believes this struggle is essential to confronting evil and preventing further human suffering.
He predicts that the victories of truth over falsehood will continue as long as the Islamic resistance remains steadfast, continues to make sacrifices, and grows stronger in determination and capability.
He further states that these victories will continue until they prepare the way for the appearance of the Awaited Imam (al-Mahdi), who, according to Shi’a belief, will establish God’s promise that Islam will prevail, believers will be honored, the earth will be illuminated by its Lord’s light, and peace and Islam will spread throughout the world.
The speaker points to what he describes as sincere and escalating jihad and great sacrifices taking place in Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq. He also refers to the suffering experienced by believers in various countries, describing it as punishment for openly supporting the resistance fighters, whom he views as acting in obedience to God, His Messenger, and Islam.
According to the statement, those currently fighting against the United States and Israel are the true supporters of Imam Hussein in the modern age. He compares their loyalty, courage, sincerity, sacrifice, and devotion to those of Imam Hussein’s companions at Karbala and expresses the belief that they will share the same honorable destiny.
The speaker emphasizes that the resistance acts on behalf of the entire Muslim nation, seeking its unity rather than division, and pursuing the common interests of all Muslims through what he describes as the path of truth and the enduring principles of religion.
He states that the resistance fully recognizes its responsibility to safeguard the nation’s religious rights. In return, he argues, the Muslim nation has a duty to support, assist, appreciate, and celebrate the resistance, considering its victories to be victories for the entire nation.
He calls upon all Muslim governments, regardless of sect or ethnicity, to return to God’s guidance and the teachings of the prophets and righteous leaders, believing that this would unite the nation, strengthen it, and lead it toward prosperity and success.
He also urges Muslim states to improve relations with one another and build mutual trust in order to protect the interests of both their countries and the wider Muslim nation. Likewise, he calls upon Muslim peoples to strengthen positive and beneficial relationships based on religious awareness, Islamic values, divine law, and sincere monotheism.
Finally, he stresses that every government should recognize and fully uphold the rights of its people.
The statement concludes that only through these principles can the Muslim nation achieve dignity, security, leadership, prosperity, happiness in this life, and eternal success.
“And say, ‘Work, for Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger and the believers. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.'”
(Qur’an 9:105)
