Collective trials are common in Bahrain and represent the lack of impartiality of the judiciary and the lack of required standards of justice, as they are just collective punishment.

Observers believe that the lack of credibility of the judiciary and its politicization by Al-Khalifa regime, especially the right of activists and politicians is showing the deterioration of the judicial proceedings, such as the trials of 169 citizens on malicious and equivocal charges that  are short of evidence and proof.  The Courts of Appeal depend on formalistic grounds in issuing  those judgments to satisfy the fascist regime of Al-Khalifa.
