Opposition Forces: Bahrain’s Clerics Are the Protectors of Religion and the Honor of the Nation, and Their Farcical Trial Is a Trial of the Shiite Presence
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Representatives of the opposition forces in Bahrain held their regular meeting to discuss the latest developments in the country, particularly the unjust trial of the country’s esteemed clerics and the fabricated charges brought against them, as part of the systematic campaign of targeting in which the authorities have crossed dangerous lines—especially following the imposed war on the Islamic Republic of Iran. The authorities have embarked on a campaign of persecution and sectarian cleansing, reaching an unprecedented level in threatening the indigenous Bahraini people’s existence, identity, and sacred beliefs.
In this context, the opposition forces affirmed the following positions:
1. The trial of Bahrain’s esteemed clerics represents an outright war against justice, faith, and the people. The further the authorities proceed with this farcical trial and any unjust sentences that may result from it, the greater their responsibility will be, and they will bear all the consequences arising from it.
2. The sectarian frenzy and inciting rhetoric accompanying the clerics’ trial hearings are strongly condemned. The atmosphere protected by the authorities constitutes, in both form and substance, a trial of the Shiite presence in Bahrain. We therefore call on all concerned to beware of the consequences of being drawn into this reckless course, which will threaten the country’s security and stability.
3. Our esteemed clerics will remain the shining embodiment of dignity and honor. They are the protectors of religion and the honor of the nation. Injustice and imprisonment will not diminish their lofty standing or their unblemished history by even an iota. The authorities must give up, time and again, any hope of separating the loyal people from their clerics and symbols. The people will continue to hold their heads high with these radiant turbans and crowns.
4. The people’s movement will continue until it achieves its legitimate political goals of freedom and justice. No matter how severe the authorities’ repression and siege become, no matter how many challenges arise in the region or how the forces of aggression converge, our people will neither kneel nor surrender nor retreat. Their banner will continue to fly, driven by an even stronger will and an indomitable spirit. The days will prove the failure of all options of repression, persecution, and subservience to foreign powers
