Statement: The U.S. Threat Against the Sultanate of Oman Is Condemnable by All Standards, and the GCC’s Silence Is Reprehensible
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We, the February 14 Youth Coalition, and on behalf of the proud people of Bahrain, and stemming from our moral and Islamic duty, express our full support and absolute solidarity with the sisterly Sultanate of Oman—its leadership, government, and people—in the face of the aggressive and blatant threats issued on May 27 and 28, 2026, by U.S. President Donald Trump and his Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.
These reckless statements, together with the direct military threats they contained, employing barbaric and provocative language threatening to destroy and obliterate the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the subsequent threats to impose unjust economic sanctions targeting Omani financial institutions, constitute hostile conduct that is unacceptable and condemnable by all political, moral, and humanitarian standards. They further represent a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, the principles of international law, and established diplomatic norms.
The Sultanate of Oman, with its rich history and deeply rooted standing in the Arab and Islamic conscience, and with its well-known tradition of political wisdom, diplomatic balance, and pioneering role in promoting security, stability, and dialogue among nations and governments, deserves nothing but respect and appreciation. Likewise, the noble Omani people, renowned for their dignity, generosity, honorable positions, and steadfast commitment to the values of sovereignty and national pride, hold a distinguished place in the hearts of the peoples of the Arab and Islamic worlds.
Targeting the Sultanate of Oman—a nation that has long been, and continues to be, a beacon of wisdom, moderation, and coexistence—constitutes an attack on the very values of Arabism and Islam, and a blatant assault on the principles of state sovereignty and the international charters and conventions that govern relations among nations.
In this context, we express our profound astonishment at the complete silence displayed thus far by the so-called Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding these serious threats directed against one of its founding member states. It was incumbent upon the Council to take the initiative and issue a clear and unequivocal position condemning these aggressive American threats, as it has done in other situations and circumstances, rather than maintaining this shameful silence, which raises legitimate questions about the seriousness of the Gulf system of collective action and the credibility of the slogans of solidarity and integration that it professes.
We, in the February 14 Youth Coalition, reaffirm our steadfast and responsible solidarity with the sisterly Sultanate of Oman. We call for a unified and resolute Arab and Islamic stance to confront any threat or aggression directed against any Arab or Islamic country, and we emphasize that Oman’s security, sovereignty, and stability are an inseparable part of the security of the Islamic Ummah as a whole.
