The prisoner of conscience in the Central Prison of Joe, “Maiytham Ibrahim Abdullah”, who had Sickle Cell disease , announced that he had gone on a hunger strike, in protest against the denial of treatment, calling for better conditions inside the prison.
Abdullah’s family said that he had gone on a hunger strike for about a week, and expressed great concern for his health and safety, due to his illness and the need for medical care.
In the context of the systematic harassment against detainees, the mother of the detainee, “Abdullah Issa Hassan,” said that she received a call from him on Tuesday, 11 February 2020, to informing her that he has been moved to the “Dry Dock” prison, after spending 27 days in the terrorist criminal Investigation Department .
She explained that he was arbitrarily arrested on January 16, 2020, after storming his father’s house in the village of Bani Jamra by armed civilian militias who confiscated his phone and personal possessions without giving permission, and took him to an unknown destination.
She added that his news was cut off for several days, before he gave a call saying that he was in the Investigation Department, while his voice was weary.
Abdullah’s mother expressed her fears for his fate, where he was previously arrested at the age of 16, was subjected to torture and ill-treatment, and was forced to confess to fabricated political charges, which led to a sentence of 3 years’ imprisonment . She added that he had served his prison term, and forced to leave the school, demanding an immediate release and granting him the right to freedom and justice.
