February 14 Coalition: Normalization Is a Crime of the Khalifa Regime, and the People of Bahrain Will Not Abandon the “Central Cause”
In a statement marking the sixth anniversary of the Khalifa regime’s normalization of relations with Israel, the February 14 Youth Coalition said:
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The sixth, grim anniversary of the crime of normalizing relations between the Khalifa regime and the occupying entity comes as a witness to a decision that was not the will of the proud people of Bahrain, nor did it express their position. Rather, it was a treacherous choice made by the ruling Khalifa family, far removed from the will of the people and in clear disregard for their historic and steadfast position on the central cause of the Arab and Muslim nations.
What took place in September 2020 was not a “historic agreement,” as promoted by the official narrative and the regime’s media outlets. Rather, it was a despicable act of betrayal that in no way represents the will of the Bahraini people. This is a people who have repeatedly taken to the streets carrying the Palestinian flag and rejecting all forms of normalization. They can never accept the crime committed by “the tyrant Hamad,” who mistakenly believed that an alliance with the enemy would guarantee his continued rule. Following the normalization agreement, the Khalifa family became, in the view of the statement, traitors to the Arab and Muslim nations.
Today, six years later, what was being said behind the scenes has been practically exposed: normalization with the occupying entity and opening the country’s doors to the Mossad intelligence agency did not bring security or prosperity, as its promoters claimed. Nor was the American military base a security and military shield. Instead, these policies opened the door for Bahrain to become exposed to the dangers of the most recent war between Israel and the United States on one side and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the other.
What was presented as “protection” for Bahrain was, in reality, protection for Israel from its isolation and the provision of a strategic foothold for Israel and the United States at the expense of the people’s sovereignty, dignity, security, and stability.
Bahrain’s own history demonstrates that the popular position toward colonialism and Zionism has remained constant and unchanged. The people of Bahrain remain committed to what they have never abandoned: the cause of Jerusalem, which represents dignity, as well as historical and religious rights. This cause cannot be separated from their identity as the central cause. All attempts at normalization and political conditioning have failed and, according to the statement, will continue to fail.
Six years have passed, yet Israel remains an “occupying entity” in the eyes of the people of Bahrain, and normalization remains an act of betrayal in their view. What is built without the will of the people cannot withstand the passage of time.
