The Popular Campaign in Defense of “Mr. Hassan Mushaima” has issued its first statement (the launch statement), under the title:
“Our Souls Are Sacrificed for You… In Defense of Mr. Hassan Mushaima”
Text of the statement:
Out of national responsibility, grounded in the people’s inherent right to defend their symbols, and stemming from our moral and national duty and loyalty to the sacrifices of steadfast and sincere leaders, this statement is issued to affirm the status of the great national symbol, Mr. Hassan Mushaima, in the conscience of the people. It also reaffirms our adherence to the right to defend him and all prisoners by all peaceful and legitimate means.
Mr. Hassan Mushaima represents a deeply rooted national stature and a struggle icon firmly present in the popular consciousness, owing to the sacrifices he has made and the principled positions he has taken in defense of dignity and rights. Any harm inflicted upon this stature is an assault on the will of the people and their struggle memory, and an attempt to undermine their constants and historical symbols.
As we affirm this status, we declare clearly that we will not hesitate to defend him, to stand by his side, and to be ready to sacrifice our lives and souls for him.
Accordingly, we announce the launch of an organized popular movement that revives the spirit and momentum of the Fourteenth of February, and affirms that the values for which that pivotal moment was ignited remain alive and burning, and that the demands for freedom, justice, and dignity do not lapse with time.
This movement comes in defense of Mr. Hassan Mushaima and all prisoners, and as a renewal of the covenant that rights are not granted but are taken through the will of peoples and through conscious, organized, peaceful struggle.
In the coming days, we will announce a series of peaceful popular and field activities, through which we await the participation of all segments of the people, each from their own position, in the firm belief that popular unity is capable of breaking all attempts to circumvent rights.
This is a first statement for action, and a proclamation to the faithful who await the hour of zero; and upon the aggressor, the cycles of downfall shall turn.
