The United Nations Commission on Human Rights deplores the lack of information on the measures taken to protect the journalists, activists, and human rights defenders, to investigate any violations against them and to bring the perpetrators to justice in Bahrain.
In a document assessing the Khalifi regime’s compliance with concluding observations and recommendations related to military courts, the death penalty, freedom of opinion and expression, the commission confirmed that it requested information on reports of reprisals against human rights organizations that had submitted reports to the United Nations.
For its part, the International Centre for Supporting Rights and Freedoms accused the regime of using its membership in the Non-Governmental Organizations Committee to reprisal against human rights organizations that have submitted reports to the United Nations concerning the continuing human rights violations in Bahrain. Also it continuously sought to prevent the centre from obtaining consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, calling on the international community to increase pressure on the regime to stop this irresponsible behaviour that violates international human rights standards.
