As the hunger strike of the prisoners in the Central Prison of Joe and Dry Dock Prison enters its third week, the prisoners issued a statement on Friday, August 30, 2019, affirming that they will continue this battle until their legitimate demands are met, the most important of which is to end the isolation of prisoners and respect their rights, despite the deterioration of their health and deprivation of treatment.
On Thursday, 15 August 2019, 15 political prisoners in the isolation building at Joe Central Prison announced their hunger-strike, demanding that they must be removed from the isolation and merged with the other detainees, then joined by more than 200 detainees. More than 450 detainees in Dry Dock Prison said that they asked for stopping the abuse, and to allow them to practice their religion, and to remove barriers during the family’s visits.
