🔶️🔷️ Statement by the Jurist-Leader Qassim:
The Criterion of Governance in the World
🔻Issued by the jurist-leader Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, a statement on the criterion of governance in the world. The following is the full text:
🔷️ Humanity is one single kind, entirely unified, composed of body and soul. Accordingly, its needs are physical and spiritual. If one of these two kinds of needs is neglected, the engagement becomes with only a part of the human being rather than the whole—dealing with a fragment of his reality, not its entirety.
All human commonalities converge within the system that governs them. The unity of the subject necessitates the unity of governance.
🔶️ Is sovereignty for power, or for truth and justice?
To answer this question, one must turn to reason, conscience, and the human moral sense embedded in innate nature (fitrah). No human being is fundamentally devoid of this conscience, although it may flourish or wither, appear strongly or diminish as a result of certain behaviors.
You will not find a person subjected to injustice or wrongdoing without protesting from the standpoint of conscience. In most cases, even the oppressor seeks justification through claims of justice rather than openly invoking oppression—despite being certain of his injustice—because he knows that humanity possesses a conscience and a rational mind that condemn injustice.
🔷️ It is absolutely invalid, in the language of reason, innate human nature, all divine messengers, and sound human judgment, for power to be the source of the right to govern—whether within the small or large family, the state, the nation, or humanity as a whole.
🔶️ If power were a legitimate source of the right to govern, acceptable rationally, innately, religiously, socially, and capable of realizing the world’s interests and unity, then it would necessarily apply equally to all relationships: between the state and the people, among states, among peoples, and among nations.
Consequently, it would also have to be the governing principle within the family framework: the relationship between parent and child, child and parent, husband and wife, and sibling with sibling. In that case, it would be entirely valid for a person to kill his father, mother, brother, or even one who fought for him and sacrificed himself for his survival—on the pretext that he is stronger and has a worldly interest in doing so.
This would mean that human society descends into a level of bestiality, degradation, savagery, chaos, loss of security, and spread of terror that no animal grouping has ever reached.
🔷️ From here, it becomes obligatory upon the world not to allow anyone who justifies his rule, oppression, plunder, and bloodshed through the logic of power—or to allow him to reach such levels of recklessness, arrogance, and madness—without restraining him and preventing his deviation.
Since adopting power as the criterion for subjugating people and legitimizing rule leads to the destruction of the world and the collapse of security and peace, it is incumbent upon the entire world to assume responsibility for uprooting this danger at its earliest stages, in any part of the earth. Otherwise, it will grow monstrously, consume both the weak and the strong, infiltrate every home, shake every relationship, and drive people to prefer death over life.
🔶️ The foundation of the right to govern is truth and justice.
Power is only to consolidate this choice, enable it, protect it, and realize the true interests of the world under its governance.
🔷️ Any nation or state that adopts a political approach based on the sovereignty of power rather than truth and justice—and whose people support this approach, sacrifice for it, or allow it to become entrenched and further empowered—will, after some time, suffer the bitterest consequences, the harshest torment, and the most miserable fate.
🔶️ Two positions are indispensable and cannot be dispensed with:
The position of a united global front confronting oppressive and brutal policies anywhere in the world.
The position of a broad, mission-driven front, closely united to serve faith-based and value-oriented thought and upright moral education, in order to elevate the general spiritual level of those who love truth and justice—those who rise above vice, strive for the good of humanity, its dignity, honor, safety of existence, and nobility of life.
Through this, evil souls will find no open path to corruption, destruction, or the enslavement of the world.
