Referral of Citizen “Lulwa Al-Benali” to Criminal Trial for Exposing Khalifi Corruption Cases
The head of the Cybercrimes Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution has concluded its investigations into what it described as the incident of a social media activist publishing video clips containing false and offensive allegations against a government entity, casting doubt on the integrity of its employees and the mechanism of its work, as well as spreading false news about one of its staff members—claiming that he exploited his position and engaged in immoral practices.
In reference to citizen Lulwa Al-Benali, who revealed in a recorded video aspects of corruption and social terrorism committed by loyalists of the Khalifi regime—and was arrested for it last September—the Public Prosecution alleged that it investigated what Al-Benali had published, and that she admitted to filming and publishing the mentioned clips, and that “the claims and allegations she broadcast were fabricated and baseless,” according to regime media reports.
The regime’s media also stated that the Public Prosecution heard witnesses who confirmed that the accusations circulated had no connection to reality, and that their purpose was to undermine the reputation of the institution and shake public confidence in the performance of government bodies. The prosecution also heard the investigator, who confirmed that the circulated videos contained false news that negatively affected public opinion and caused moral harm to society.
Consequently, the Public Prosecution ordered Al-Benali’s referral to criminal court on charges of spreading false news, publicly insulting a public institution, and using a telecommunications network to send false and misleading messages.
It is noteworthy that the Khalifi regime had arrested Lulwa Al-Benali after she revealed, in a video recording, aspects of corruption and social terrorism committed by regime loyalists under its protection. She had published information about a human resources director at a government institution who allegedly exploited his official authority to blackmail female employees regarding their promotions.
