Prisoners of Jaw Central Prison: We Will Not Be Deceived by the Regime’s False Projects
In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
The Khalifi regime continues to keep political prisoners behind bars unjustly, subjecting them to abuse and persecution in retaliation for the people’s voice that rejects its oppressive policies.
It still uses the issue of detainees as a tool of political blackmail, disregarding their inherent right to freedom, and arrogantly ignoring the voices of their families and their people who demand their immediate and unconditional release.
Through malicious schemes under the guise of so-called “projects,” the regime has claimed—falsely—that these initiatives would qualify detainees for release within short periods. Such plans have been implemented in recent years, the latest being the project currently put forward.
The prisoners previously engaged with these projects, but every single one of them ended in failure—despite promises from senior officials and officers in the Ministry of Interior, starting with Undersecretary of the Ministry (Nasser Al Khalifa), the Undersecretary for Legal Affairs (Rashid Abu Najma), former Director of Prisons (Abdul Salam Al-Arifi) and current Director (Adnan Bahar), as well as former Director of Jaw Prison (Hisham Al-Zayani) and current Director (Mazen Al-Tamimi). They repeatedly assured the prisoners and gave them hope, only for it to become clear that these projects were all lies and devoid of seriousness.
The most recent scheme, deceitfully labeled a “project” that would lead to the release of some prisoners, is nothing but a repetition of the past—intended to sedate the prisoners, their families, and their people. It is merely the narcotic of the current regime, which the prisoners have decided to confront, reject, and refuse to engage with.
We call on the families of prisoners, and behind them the proud people, not to be deceived by such tricks, but to approach them with full awareness and caution.
We are fully convinced that the prisoners will not be freed from these oppressive prisons except through a massive, serious, and ongoing movement involving the families of prisoners, the people, and the prisoners themselves. Otherwise, the regime is not sincere—as experience has shown—in releasing political prisoners.
And no right is lost so long as there is someone demanding it.
