A Solidarity Protest in Jau Prison with the “Underage Detainees in Dry Dock”
Jau Central Prison witnessed a solidarity protest with the underage prisoners in Dry Dock following the fire that broke out there.
In this context, political detainees in buildings “5” and “12” held a peaceful protest in objection to the policy of negligence that led to the fire in Dry Dock and endangered the underage political prisoners, particularly after communication with them was cut off and visits were suspended.
Human rights sources reported that contact was lost with the building housing the underage detainees in Dry Dock after the fire, which caused growing concern among families who received reports that some prisoners had suffered from suffocation.
Families of the detainees also stated that a number of scheduled visits had been abruptly canceled, amid official ambiguity regarding the details of the incident and the situation of the remaining prisoners.
It is worth noting that the Khalifi Ministry of Interior announced that a fire had occurred in Dry Dock Prison on Tuesday, August 19, during which two underage detainees were transferred to hospital after suffering from suffocation.
Amid the blackout surrounding the reality of what transpired, sources indicated that Building 17, designated for underage political prisoners, had been stormed by mercenary forces and intelligence units, who used excessive force, including stun grenades and tear gas, which caused major chaos inside the building, and a fire was documented in one of its sections.
