The February 14 Revolution Youth Coalition has launched a media
campaign rejecting the hosting of ‘’Formula 1’’ races in Bahrain.
The coalition posted on its official social media pages that these races are
held over the remains of martyrs and the suffering of prisoners, while
recalling the martyr, field commander “Salah Abbas,” who was
assassinated by the regime after participating in a protest against it.
It also pointed out that this race is being held amid blatant and public
normalization with the Zionists, in complete disregard for the atrocities the
people of Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen are subjected to, and while the
Saudi occupation of the country persists. It called for the race to be
prevented and not allowed to take place in Bahrain.
Activists and human rights defenders view the ‘’Formula 1’’ races in
Bahrain as nothing more than a form of ‘’sportswashing’’, through which the
regime seeks each year to polish its image and cover up the human rights
violations it commits against detained opposition activists and human rights
defenders.
