A number of political detainees in Jaw Prison (Building 8) announced on
Saturday, July 13, their commencement of a hunger strike in protest
against the policy of retaliation and mistreatment.
This step comes after detainees in Building 10 began a similar hunger
strike in response to the ongoing policy of starvation and harassment.
Sources reported that three of them are dead due to the strike and the
others continue their battle with empty stomachs.
It is worth noting that the administration of Jaw Prison has not only relied
on the policy of starvation to pressure political detainees in general and
specifically to pressure those who are protesting, but it has also escalated
this policy by withholding certain meals for flimsy reasons, after significantly
reducing the amount of food.
The political detainees continue their peaceful sit-in in several buildings,
demanding the complete clearing of all prisons.
Additionally, around 600 political detainees remain in the regime’s prisons,
with lack of the most basic living conditions, among them are prominent
leaders, dozens of sick individuals, and others facing difficult humanitarian
situation.
