Political Commentary: The Grim Reality Facing Free Press in Bahrain … Salute to the Resilient Pens and Media Crews within the Coalition and Opposition Forces
On the occasion of World Press Day, the Political Council of the
February 14 Revolution Youth Coalition issued the following
political commentary:
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious the most Merciful
The Political Council of the February 14 Revolution Youth
Coalition condemns the government celebrations in Bahrain on
the occasion of World Press Day, which falls on the third of May
every year and believes that the propaganda and statements
issued by the Khalifi regime’s apparatus and its institutions –
including the speech of the tyrant Hamad on this occasion – as
futile attempts to cover up the grim reality faced by the press and
freedom of speech and expression in Bahrain, especially
following the complete crackdown on all non-governmental
platforms and newspapers, the latest being ‘’Al-Wasat’’
newspaper, and the subsequent widespread terrorism and
intimidation in surveillance and control systems, as well as in the
security pursuit of all opinions published by new media, in addition
to a series of authoritarian policies and laws that encircle the
spaces of freedom of opinion, publication, and its platforms in
Bahrain, and in all walks of life.
On this occasion, as we salute the free pens and independent
writers in Bahrain, and express pride and honor in the courage of
citizens in expressing their free opinions, we affirm that the ruling
regime of tyranny and corruption in Bahrain is tribal, sectarian,
and racist. It is expected to be antagonistic and combatant
towards all forms of freedom and free expression of opinion. It is a
security, aggressive, and intolerant system – no matter how much
it hypocritically flatters and deceives – towards the indigenous
citizens who insist on expressing their culture and their religious
identity threatened by persecution and genocide, under the
supervision of the highest echelons of this illegitimate entity.
On the occasion of World Press Day, we emphasize the necessity
for the journalistic body in Bahrain to continue the journey of
independent press, which has a rich history in the country.
Everyone must unite to maintain hope for the existence of free
journalists and national struggle for freedom of expression in the
face of repression and dictatorship. In this context, we salute the
media crews in all bodies of the February 14 Revolution Youth
Coalition and their working committees and in all spectra of
opposition forces. We particularly commend the blessed efforts of
those supervising the editing of the periodic bulletin of the Political
Council ‘’February 14’’ where its first edition was released last
April. We hope that this bulletin will serve as an additional
incentive to expand the scope of non-governmental press and
media in our beloved country.
