A statement has been issued by the political detainees in Jaw
prison, Building 7, regarding their sit-in protest against the policy
of isolation, which reads as follows:
In the name of Allah, the Most Graciou, the Most Merciful
Based on the continuation of the policy of isolation and physical
and psychological torture practiced by prison administration, and
its breach of previous pledged to end the security isolation, where
it had previously promised, along with governmental entities, to
end it, but it started to procrastinate, and even increased the
isolation of detainees. Some of them have been isolated for a
long time, like detainee ‘’Mohamme Al-Fakhrawi’’, who has been
isolated for over two years, deprived of practicing any religious
rituals or congregational prayers, and has not been allowed to
meet any Bahraini detainee during this period, along with others
who are also isolated.
As a result, this sit-in has been decided to halt this heinous crime,
as there is no legal provision for indefinite isolation.
During these days, since the start of this sit-in on March 7th
, demands and a message were delivered to the director of Jaw
prison, ‘’Hisha al-Zayani’’, who attended the sit-in on March 10th
but did not utter a single word. Instead, a group from theadministration conducted inspection tours of the building without
any dialogue. A human rights committee also attended, and on
March 11th, other individuals attended but did not speak to any of
the protesting detainees.
What we want to emphasize is that the previous administration’s
promises with the Interior Ministry and Public Prosecution to end
the isolation file were not fulfilled, and the attendance of al-Zayani
himself to oversee the demands indicates that he is responsible
for what is happening and bears full responsibility, so he oversees
preventing communication with families, depriving detainees of
visits, and we hold him and the Interior Ministry responsible for
every violation and crime.
