Saudi Arabia has always raised its voices in protest against the dominance of many Bahraini naturalized people of Yemeni origin over the gold trade in their country and their control over its market.
The Khalifi regime’s disregard of this cry and the successive Saudi warnings led to the promulgation of an ‘’official’’ law from the Saudi regime prohibiting those of Bahraini nationality, especially Yemenis, from trading in gold, following a series of abuses by Yemenis who hold Bahraini nationality, where the move was widely welcomed by Saudis.
The decision received reactions, some of which revealed that Yemeni labour were buying Bahraini citizenship instead of residency for 15 years, which is one of the conditions for acquiring it.
Some criticized the Khalifi regime’s policy towards the Saudi regime, which allows those who acquired Bahraini citizenship to enter Saudi markets, despite the damage that it caused, asking; ‘’is there any market to buy Bahraini citizenship and earn from giving it’’?
This scandal revealed the extent to which the Khalifi regime continues to grant Bahrain citizenship to those who don’t deserve it and didn’t even fulfil its conditions, which confirms its approach to political naturalization based on changing the country’s demography, and as it is unable to contain new naturalized persons, it exploits the other Gulf countries to provide them livelihood opportunities.
