Families of a number of detainees in Joe Central Prison said that their sons have been deprived of their right to communicate and get treatment by Al-Khalifa regime , as well as poor health care and living conditions inside the prison wards.
A mother of one of the detainees stated that she received a call from her son on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from Joe prison, where contact with his family has been cut off since 3 days ago. In his call, he said that the prison administration prevented the detainees from contacting their families because of their protest against the overflow of sewage inside the cells, in addition to continuing their complaints from dermatitis and scabies outbreaks.
The prison administration insists on not providing appropriate treatment or medical care, despite the demands of detainees and their families, and many human rights association.
Human rights activists were quoted detainees in Joe prison as saying that they demand an immediate intervene to stop all forms of reprisal against them and improve the poor conditions inside the prison.
They explained that the problem started a month ago and still is, and the detainees filed complaints with the prison administration, but the officials used repression and force instead of solving it, and they sprayed “pepper spray” to force the detainees to enter their cells, where they called in additional forces.
