Al-Salam “Peace” Organization for Democracy and Human Rights held the Al-Khalifa regime the accountability for implementing the policy of discrimination in education against Shiite citizens in Bahrain, referring to the student Raneem al-Khawaja, as an example of discrimination, as she had deprived of her right to get a fellowship despite her outstanding academic achievements , only because she belongs to the family of the human rights activist and sentenced to life imprisonment Abdulhadi al-Khawaja.
In a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Education, the organization said that the Ministry of Education is pursuing a policy of sectarian discrimination, depriving the majority of Shiite students, with high-level of school success rates, of scholarships and study grants. A similar policy in the recruitment of citizens in educational jobs is followed too.
The statement stressed that the authorities need to respect human rights fundamentals, including the right to education, changing policies of sectarian discrimination in the study mission system, drafting laws to ensure that low-income families educate their children, and the immediate release of all children detained on charges against the backdrop of the political crisis in the country, and rehabilitate them psychologically to complete their education.
