The campaign, called by the Bahraini opposition on Saturday, January 18, 2020 under the hashtag “Sick Prisoners in Bahrain”, witnessed a wide interaction by human rights groups, activists and social media bloggers .
Many of them tweeted about the suffering of sick prisoners in Al-Khalifa prisons, and mentioned examples of these patients, stressing the need to convey their complaints and messages to the international community in light of the regime’s intransigence in denying them treatment.
The campaign included video clips and reports that expose their suffering that they are not provided with proper treatment in the prison clinic, that they are not available for treatment, the difficulty of transferring them to Al-Salmaniya Medical Complex, and even the difficulty to provide them with medicine on time or periodically.
The February 14 Revolution Youth Coalition allocated a series of tweets in the campaign entitled “Expose the crimes of Al-Khalifa regime against our loved detainees who are suffering in its prisons”, saying that the prisons of the regime are packed with more than 5,000 prisoners who have been imprisoned and tried by illegal courts.
Hundreds of prisoners suffer from diseases and even serious illnesses, and are denied treatment in retaliation for their national positions. It also touched upon prominent cases for chronically ill people, including Elias al-Mulla, cancer patient, Mohammed Faraj, multiple sclerosis patient, Fadhel Abbas, lupus patients, allergy patients, sickle patients, as well as several symbols and leaders.”
