Reports have shown that the prisoners of conscience in the central prison of Joe have escalated their hunger-strike because of the deplorable conditions inside al-Khalifa entity prisons, which ignores their basic demands.
The strike was expanded to include building. No 10, after 12 and 14, because detainees were denied access to toilets (WC) outside the building at the time of need, as the officials had set a limited time to take advantage of them.
The families of some of the detainees in these three buildings said that their sons continued to go on hunger-strike until Thursday, 20 June 2019, due to the ill-treatment and denial of the right to communicate and the abolition of the hour out of the outer yard. They confirmed that the prisons’ cells are in a state of overcrowding, because they contain numbers that exceed their absorptive capacity, which makes it difficult to stay or move freely inside them.
The families expressed their deep concern over the fate of their sons who are on hunger strike, where some of them were reported to have low levels of sugar and fatigue as a result of hunger strikes. They demanded that their sons should be able to communicate, abolish all forms of harassment, and monitor the prison administration to hold them accountability in case of any violation of the prisoners’ right, according to human rights sources.
