February 14 Coalition Calls for Commemorating “Bahraini Prisoners’ Day”
The February 14 Youth Coalition has issued a broad call to the Bahraini people, both inside the country and abroad, to actively participate in commemorating “Bahraini Prisoners’ Day”, observed annually on July 24. This occasion serves as an expression of solidarity with political detainees held in the prisons of the Al Khalifa regime and reaffirms the ongoing popular demand to “empty the prisons” and end the suffering of hundreds of prisoners, foremost among them national leaders and prominent figures.
In its statement, the Coalition emphasized the importance of this day as a national occasion during which Bahrainis renew their pledge of loyalty to the prisoners and amplify their voices and suffering in the face of the regime’s continued neglect and escalating human rights violations. The statement called for turning this occasion into a moment of resistance that raises the voices of the prisoners before the international community and brings renewed attention to their just causes.
The Coalition affirmed that the continued detention of religious, political, and human rights leaders under harsh conditions constitutes a political and moral crime committed by the Al Khalifa regime as part of a systematic policy of repression and exclusion. It warned that silence in the face of this reality amounts to complicity in the crime.
The Coalition also urged civil society groups, human rights organizations, and media outlets to engage actively with this day—whether through on-the-ground events or digital campaigns—in order to strengthen popular and international solidarity with the cause of political prisoners.
It is worth noting that “Bahraini Prisoners’ Day” was established in 2015 as an annual occasion to renew the commitment to the prisoners’ cause and to remind the world that hundreds of Bahrainis remain imprisoned for their political opinions and their peaceful participation in the popular movement demanding freedom, justice, and self-determination.
