Statement: On the Fifteenth Anniversary of the Saudi Military Intervention in Bahrain – Our People Continue Their Revolution
The fifteenth anniversary of the entry of Saudi forces into Bahrain (March 14, 2011) comes after the Al-Khalifa authorities failed to suppress the February 14 uprising, which called for freedom, dignity, and justice. At that time, the authorities requested the entry of Saudi forces under the pretext of “protecting strategic facilities.”
This military intervention marked a dark chapter in the history of Bahrain and the wider region, and represented an attempt to silence the voice of a people who sought to obtain their rights after decades of political repression.
Fifteen years of arrests, repression, demolition of mosques, revocation of citizenships, and the persecution of activists have not broken the will of the Bahraini people or ended their demands for change. The people of Bahrain have continued to show determination in pursuing their rights and aspirations.
On this anniversary, the February 14 Youth Coalition remembers the martyrs of the uprising and expresses solidarity with prisoners, detainees, and all those who have suffered for their political beliefs.
The coalition also reaffirms that the February 14 movement remains present in the public conscience, and that the struggle will continue until the people achieve their right to determine their political future and establish a system that reflects their will and ensures justice and dignity.
