Weekly Event (Friday – October 3, 2025): The Al Khalifa Regime’s Foreign Ministry Complicity — Denial of Bahrainis’ Participation in the “Freedom Flotilla”
The Foreign Ministry of the Khalifa regime stated in a press release on Thursday, October 2, that it is following up on “the situation of Bahraini citizens arrested by the Israeli security forces.” The ministry added that the Bahraini embassy in Tel Aviv is “in contact with the relevant authorities to ensure the citizens’ safe return to the country.”
The statement serves as clear evidence of the regime’s complicity with the occupying entity, as it made no mention whatsoever of the circumstances surrounding the detention of the Bahraini citizens. It deliberately avoided acknowledging their participation in the Global Freedom Flotilla aimed at breaking the siege on Gaza and refrained from using any language condemning the Zionist entity’s attack on the flotilla in international waters. This aligns with what activists have documented regarding the harassment by the Al Khalifa authorities of several Bahraini participants in the flotilla. Moreover, the regime’s statement failed to denounce the very crime of attacking the flotilla and endangering the lives of the activists aboard, even as many countries issued strong condemnations of the Zionist entity and described the interception of the flotilla as a “terrorist act.”
Observers were not surprised by the statement from the Foreign Ministry, as it complements the position taken by the regime’s representative at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, who chose to remain seated and listen to the speech of the criminal Netanyahu instead of walking out in protest, as many others did.
The statement also referred to the continued operation of the Al Khalifa embassy in Tel Aviv, reaffirming the regime’s defiance of the popular will that rejects normalization and demands the closure of the Zionist embassy in Manama. This stance further coincides with recent reports about life sentences handed down to Bahraini citizens accused of plotting to assassinate the former Zionist ambassador in Bahrain.
