A number of political detainees in Building “9” of Jaw Prison announced
their commencement of an open-ended hunger strike, joining their
comrades who have been on strike for over a week.
These detainees called for comprehensive freedom and rejected all
repression policies being taken against them, including electricity and water
cuts and starvation policy.
It is worth noting that the detainees in Building “10” began their hunger
strike on July 9, and those in Building “8” started on July 13.
The detainees’ decision to go on hunger strike, coupled with the difficult
conditions they are enduring, have led to cases of fainting among them,
which were treated on-site by other prisoners.
It is noteworthy that the administration of Jaw Prison has not only relied on
the policy of starvation to pressure the political detainees in general and the
strikers in particular, but it has also escalated this policy by withholding
certain meals for flimsy reasons, significantly reducing the amount of food,
and cutting off electricity and drinking water.
The political detainees continue their peaceful sit-ins in several buildings,
demanding the clearing of all prisons.
