On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, al-Khalifa entity has released His Eminence Majid al-Mashael, the head of the Islamic Council, after it had extended the detention for 15 days.
It is worth mentioning that His Eminence was arrested again after 3 days of his release, as he spent two and a half years in al-Khalifa prison. He was summoned on Wednesday January 30, 2019 to the southern Hamad City police station and then released, but the regime detained him on Thursday 31 January again.
Al–Mashael was freed on Monday, January 28, 2019, after completing his sentence of two and a half years in prison. He was arrested in July 2016 for defending religion and rituals and sit-in in solidarity with Ayatollah Qassem.
