Bilad al-Qadeem (the old city ) is a district at the Capital Manama ,and it was the historical Islamic Capital of Bahrain throughout the entire history of Bahrain .Bilad al-Qadeem is one of the oldest towns in( Awal) Island ,and it is located in the south part of Manama .Its size is about 3,5 km2 ,and it has not been known with any other name except (Bilad al-Qadeem ).
This town was distinguished with many mosques and wells like ,the famous well (Ayen Azahri) ,which includes the oldest Islamic building in the whole Gulf .This building is al-Khamees's mosque which its establishment period was a point of dispute .The second old mosque after it is Jamala mosque which was distinguished as a destination for the science and scholars .
The town has seen big movements throughout the years of the revolution ,and it has brilliant leaders in the Bahraini opposition such as the scholar Sheik Abid al-Jaleel al-Maqdad ,Sheik Mohammed al-Maqdad ,Sheik Ali Salman ,the Sheik of the martyrs (the martyred Sheik )Ali al-Nakas and the field leader Salah Abbas .The first martyred woman Aziza Khamees was died in this town too ,where her family revive al-Mihrab revolution every week in the ruined mosque of al-Aliweyat ,in addition to the demonstrations and the heroic activities .Accordingly ,the town has deserved the title of (the Beacon of Steadfastness) for April 2018
